- By the time Capricorn Records released the Allman Brothers Band's fifth album, "Brothers and Sisters," in August 1973, the legendary Southern blues-rock band had already achieved world fame with their 1971 live album, "At Fillmore East." This success was followed by the tragic loss of their founder, leader and musical visionary, guitarist Duane Allman, who died in a motorcycle accident on October 29, 1971. Possibly at the height of their popularity, the double album "Eat a Peach" followed on February 12, 1972, featuring the last recordings with Duane.Led by singer / keyboardist Gregg Allman with vocalist / guitarist Dickey Betts - leftover guitarist from a group famous for its polyphonic lead guitars - the Allman Brothers Band marched ahead with "Brothers and Sisters," which became their best-selling album today, spending five weeks at No. 1 on the US charts and becoming the first Allman Brothers album to reach platinum status."Brothers and Sisters" documents a band reinventing itself, moving in a new direction after a traumatic loss, "comments UME's executive director Bruce Resnikoff." The two deluxe editions open up precious insight into the band's creative process with previously unreleased rehearsals, jams and outtakes."
