Marina & The Diamonds – Electra Heart (2xLP)

Electra Heart is the follow-up to Marina's UK top 5 album The Family Jewels, which included several international chart hits such as "Hollywood" and "I Am Not A Robot" and peaked at number 12 in the charts in Germany, and it proved to be a big step forward even or despite the second - mostly difficult - album. "Electra Heart" turned out to be a great album full of sophisticated and confident songs and was recorded in London and Los Angeles while Marina was on tour. For the fourteen tracks, she enlisted a group of collaborators for songwriting and production - including Dr Luke (Katy Perry), Rick Nowels (Madonna), Liam Howe (Sneaker Pimps) and Greg Kurstin (Lily Allen).

Electra Heart is a fiercely honest story of identity, love, rejection, doomed romance and hope, all tinged with a touch of humor and British eccentricity. Marina said: "It's an ode to dysfunctional love. I based the project on characters commonly found in love stories in film and theater - usually those who have power and control in love, as opposed to those who embody weakness or defeat. I suppose I was trying to deal with the embarrassment of being led around by the nose for the first time in my life. Rejection is an embarrassing topic for anyone, and my response to it is Electra Heart. It's a pretty open-hearted album."
